The work of the novelist Jean Genet influenced this work, particularly his novel Querelle of Brest. Genet was an orphan, a misfit, and an outsider. He was also a homosexual. In ways, I identify with the feeling of being an outsider. Perhaps all artists are. Genet was a thief, a soldier, and a friend of Sartre. He was influenced by his time spent in Syria and Morocco, and later in life went on to champion the Palestinian cause and the idea of the Two-State Solution. There is conflict everywhere. In many ways, we all live life nose to nose with problems, religious views, and neighbours.
